A Little Introduction

A Little Introduction

Since I was so keen to get writing and get some content up on this blog, I sort of jumped in the deep end without introducing myself. I thought I’d let you know a little bit about me so we can get to know each other a bit better.

I’m a student

I’m currently studying an undergraduate degree in German and History. Loving languages as much as I do, I also decided to make things a bit more difficult for myself this year by taking a beginners Spanish course too. My biggest goal in life is to get to a point where I can happily call myself bilingual! I’m definitely on the way, but there’s always so much more to learn! As for History, my main area of interest is modern Europe, and I’m particularly interested in gender and religious history.

I’m a Singer-Songwriter

This is my go-to fact when I’m asked to ‘introduce myself and say an interesting fact about myself’, despite it not being all that interesting to me! I’ve been interested in music, especially singing, pretty much since I could talk and picked up my Dad’s guitar and decided to teach myself at the age of about 12 and haven’t looked back since. Writing songs then came naturally from there when I started messing about with chords and seeing what would happen.

I can play a surprising number of musical instruments…

Again, one that doesn’t seem like all that much of a big deal in my eyes but I know other people are interested in when I tell them. I can play the piano, guitar, ukulele, flute and a bit of the mandolin, most of which I am self-taught. Growing up I would just fall in love with another instrument and then decide I was going to teach myself it. I have always preferred to play what I want, especially if it’s something I can sing along with, so opted for teaching myself using the internet. There are so many resources out there for learning instruments, sometimes it just takes a bit of digging to find them!

I’m a reader

Although I don’t have nearly as much time to read as I used to, I still think of myself as a reader. Ever since I was little I’ve enjoyed sitting down with a book and submerging myself in a story. In fact I love books so much I run a blog solely dedicated to books over at www.abookandabrew.com. If it sounds like your type of thing please do check it out!

There are few things I love more than puppies

I know this is the most cliché thing on this list but I just don’t care. Anyone who knows me will verify that nothing makes me happier than seeing a dog, whether that’s on my walk into University in the morning or a cute video on Facebook. I also often joke about going home just to see my dog which obviously isn’t entirely true but she does absolutely brighten my day.

My love for baking is very strong at the moment

As you may have noticed by now, I love baking. It’s a fairly new development that I have discovered this love and as the obsessive personality I am I have completely latched on to it. My Great-Grandmother always loved to bake so maybe I inherited it from her. Wherever it came from, I certainly think its here to stay! Whilst most of the recipes I’m using at the moment belong to other people (as you may have noticed from all the links to Cupcake Jemma at the end of most of my cupcake posts!) I’m hoping that over time I’ll be able to start creating my own recipes and sharing them with you. As I mentioned, this love is still fairly new and I am still learning a lot every time I bake, but one day I’m confident I’ll be able to make my own recipes!

I’m addicted to Lush

In a big way. For a few years I have pretty much exclusively used Lush bath products and every time I try a new skin care product from them I completely fall in love. Obviously I love Lush for their products, but I also love what they stand for. As someone with very sensitive skin, knowing that what I am putting on my skin is all natural makes me feel much better. Also, knowing that the brand is not only cruelty-free but actively campaigns against animal testing makes me feel much less guilty about indulging in their products!

My Instagram obsession is very real

When Instagram first brought out Instagram stories, I criticized straight away. I didn’t understand what the point was when snapchat does exactly the same thing. A little while later and I’m completely obsessed. I think the quality of content posted on Instagram seems to be higher than most other social networks and that makes it much nicer to scroll through. Similarly, the quality of content on Instagram stories is so much higher than that on snapchat. I’d much rather see people baking/trying out new products etc on their Instagram stories than people I know on drunken nights out snapchatting from the clubs they are in. I’m very loyal to Instagram these days and am absolutely obsessed!

So there we go! You now know a lot more about me (I hope) than you did before. If there’s anything you’ve read in this post that you’d like me to talk about in more detail in another blog post let me know, I’m always open to suggestions!
