A Realistic Everyday Makeup Routine for a University Student

A Realistic Everyday Makeup Routine for a University Student

Although I am definitely a fan of going all out when it comes to make up for certain occasions, for my every day makeup routine I’m fairly low maintenance. I do wear makeup every day (unless I’m not likely to leave the house and it feels like a waste) because I like spending that time to get ready in the morning, but I don’t wear much. On an average day I just wear tinted moisturiser, concealer, mascara and fill in my brows. I find that if the products are good enough, that’s enough, so I thought I’d share my favourites with you.

Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisturising Balm

I mentioned this in my January favourites as something I’ve fairly recently re-discovered. It was the first beauty product I ever owned that wasn’t kids makeup. I’ve gone through a fair few pots of it since then but I remain loyal to it. I don’t like to wear foundation on a day to day basis because it feels too heavy on my skin, but I do like to have something to even my skin tone out ever so slightly. I love that this is so dewy and brightening and whilst its not very strong coverage, it does exactly what I want it to do. If you’re after something to make you look a little bit more awake for an early lecture than you actually are, I’d definitely recommend this! I use the shade ‘extra light tint’.

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer

If you’ve ever read a beauty blog post or watched a beauty video on YouTube, no doubt you’ve come across this. As a student, when I heard that all the bloggers were obsessed with a drug store concealer that didn’t make me wince at the price I had to try it. I definitely see why so many people rave about it. I’ve used this concealer pretty much exclusively for about 4 or 5 years now and I’m still not bored of it! Combined with the Bobbi Brown tinted moisturiser, these two brighten my skin and hide any dark circles from late nights. It’s light enough to use every day, but I also use this same concealer with foundation if I’m doing a stronger look. I use the shade 1 – Fair and I apply it using the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush (again, I’ve been loyal to this brush for years too!).

Beauty UK Eyebrow Kit

As you may be able to tell, my eyebrow kit is looking rather old and battered these days but it still does the job perfectly. I actually won this in a giveaway a few years ago (thanks Miss Squiggles!) and I still use it everyday. I combine the light brown and the medium brown by just dipping my Real Techniques Angled Brush into both a few times before applying it. That combined with a quick brush through using my Revlon Double Ended Brow Brush and my brows stay (mostly) tamed throughout the day. I do use something to set them in place in a stronger makeup look, but I like the softness of just using a powder for my everyday makeup look.

Avon Super Extend Extreme Mascara

Lastly, I have always thought and probably will always think my face looks a bit funny without mascara. After being loyal to the Maybelline The Falsies Mascara for years throughout school, I tried this one about a year ago on my mum’s recommendation and have repurchased it a few times since. It definitely does what it says on the tube by lengthening the lashes. I also like that it is a really dark black and stays like that even as it dries out. Others I’ve tried seem to have a weaker colour the older they get and as someone who is both lazy and on a student budget I don’t replace beauty products until they’re gone. I also curl my lashes every day before applying mascara. The eyelash curler in the photo is one I bought in New Zealand on a trip after mine broke on the way over. I have no idea what brand it is but generally I find them all pretty similar anyway. Although its probably a beauty blogger sin to say this, I usually just buy the cheapest one.

So there we go! That’s my everyday makeup routine for a typical day of lectures. Whilst I do get up early, I generally don’t like to spend much time on my makeup and this is just right for me. It’s quick and easy but just makes me feel a bit more put together.

Have you tried any of these products? Can you think of others I might like? What does your everyday makeup routine look like? Let me know in the comments below!
